Sivanath Sastri College

Sivanath Sastri College is situated near Gol Park, South Calcutta, at 23/49, Gariahat Road, Kolkata-700 029. Prof. Shyamalendu Majumdar is the Teacher-in Charge; Prof. Seema Banerjee is the Vice Principal of this college, while Dr. Sriparna Bose and Prof. Sipra Roy are working as the Bursar and Superintendent respectively. Sivanath Sastri College has been awarded a B+ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. As an affiliated college under the University of Calcutta it is primarily sustained by Grant-in-aid received from the Government. Majority of the students hail from urban and suburban areas. The admission process is strictly based on merit. The performance of the students in the University Exams is highly satisfactory and has helped the college to acquire a very good reputation in and around Kolkata. It has obtained a special status in the domain of academics relating to the Commerce Department in particular. The College also offers different Honours courses under B.A. & B.Sc. stream.  All the Departments have experienced teachers. Some of the teachers in the commerce department are also associated with the corporate world. A few of the teachers are associated with Post-Graduate departments of different Universities of West Bengal. The teachers belonging to the Departments of Education and Political Science also provide academic guidance to different institutions belonging to rural areas. The faculty members regularly participate in Seminars and Workshops in order to upgrade themselves with the recent developments in their respective disciplines. The College periodically holds workshops for raising the awareness of the students relating to important issues which touches upon their lives; from the ‘AIDS-Awareness Programme’ to a workshop on ‘Drug Abuse’. The College has recently undertaken an international project with Prayasam under the auspices of UNICEF on 'Child Right'.The College takes pride of being one of those modern academic institutions which not only puts emphasis on the academic aspect but also takes greatest care to equip the students with improved communication skills by arranging debates and extempore speeches, so that they may readily face the challenges of the professional world. The students are encouraged to pursue other artistic activities in which they have some kind of proficiency.Above all, the cordial teacher-student-non-teaching staff relationship is a hallmark of this academic institution. The ambience of the college is conductive for fulfilling the goals that the authorities have set for themselves.
