The
College has an extremely active campus life. The early morning
classes are meant for a couple of thousands of fresh minds who are
armed with sharp intellect and the will to challenge the new world.
The locale of the college ensures vibrating academic discourses
where the keywords are openness and scientific insight.
Students'
Union:
The
Students' Union is obviously an important part of the College
life—it is very active and the college authority invites it to
take part in the decision making process. At the end of the academic
year as prescribed by the Calcutta University, the College Authority
under the guidance of the Principal conducts an election for the
formation of the General Body of the Students' Union and
subsequently the Office Bearer are selected by that Body in turn.
Recently the Students' Union organised a 'Blood Donation Camp' The
Students' Union plays a leading role in organizing Annual Cultural
Events-'The Social' and 'The Freshers' Welcome'. There is particular
emphasis on dance and music, spectacular displays elaborately
organized and largely enjoyed by the young audience. Srijoni: The College has
a close-knit Music Club, Srijoni, primarily associated with the
cultural committee, which encourages young talents to render their
skill before the audience. Apart from orienting talented students
towards different performing art forms it gives opportunities to
students who have a knack for creative writing or art photography
The College brings out a magazine every year – there are articles
in English, Hindi and Bengali. Departmental journals are academic in
nature, whereas the College Magazine is more eclectic, and there is
scope for flamboyance! Particularly striking is the artwork of the
students—including pencil sketches, watercolours and cartoons.
Nostalgia, travel, books, and cinema—everything has a place here.
The College firmly believes that mere academic exercise is not
enough to ensure the all round development of the students. In view
of that we have made arrangements for round the year 'Career
Counselling and Personality Development Courses' by professional
organisation. Different reputed corporate houses are in process of
conducting campus interviews for the deserving students. Our girls
are also exposed to short courses on 'Self-defence' in order to
enable them to face the world with lot more courage.
Sports:
Finally, there is the Annual Sports Event organized by the teachers
and Students' Union. It is held within the spacious grounds of
Rabindra Sarovar Stadium. Participation is good especially since the
Administration plays an almost parental role here! The list of
events is impressive- Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Relay Race,
Discus Throw, Three Legged Race, and Sprinting. This is followed by
Musical Chair. Such events test skills and also create an
opportunity for much bonhomie and good will.
Women's Cell:
The College has formed a women's cell to promote the cause of the women. |
